The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Blind Live Stream) - Finale Stream : Part 2 / 3
Well, it took quite a few streams, but here we are at the final one for Skyward Sword! Overall, I liked the game, but it did do a good job showing why motion controls do not really work so well for these types of games. Any battles that had much reliance on being precise with them was forced to be at such a slow pace to compensate for the inevitable sluggishness of motion controls. This led to a lot of disappointment from me as really dramatic settings became the place of battle for... not very exciting bosses.
What the game lacks in its controls and excessive between dungeon fluff though, it makes up for in the quality of its dungeons as well as the writing. This game actually had some genuinely memorable characters, which not many other Zelda games can say... for good reasons at least (freaking Tingle). Groose is the best and deserves his own game!
Oh, and I do rant at the final boss a bit, but do a poor job emphasizing what I wanted to in the heat of the moment. Thus I will summarize it here...! The big thing that was bothering me about the final boss is how disappointing it is... Here we have the big bad... and he is just a big brute. A glorified Iron Knuckle in a dramatic setting. The setting does not fit the battle at all, and in a lot of ways, it is the fault of the controls. This game has had two types of bosses... less precise, fast-paced ones were flailing is enough... and very slow, precision bosses that are slowed down to match the pace of the controls. They all fight the same way too... just doing semi-precise slashes with the sword, nothing fancy. Thus the final boss being just another of these... it really stung.
Then there is the second form... Relying on semi-RNG lightning bolts and desperately hoping the game thinks you are pointing up enough at the time, on top of facing an AI that is designed to counter-attack if you try to get a Skyward Strike, it just creates an insufferable experience and gave me no desire to figure out what is expected of you. I know it can be just me, but I did not feel in control for that fight, I felt more like I was praying to the RNG gods to not just get me hit. My winning run was a good display of the way to win without having to rely on any of the unreliable elements of the battle, but there is definitely a far better way to do it. One thing is for sure, it is one of my least favourite Zelda final bosses, or bosses in general, of all time.
Oh, and a note about Castlevania, due to some CORRUPTION in one of the recordings, it is taking awhile to fix the damage. I will post more when it is ready!
Enjoy!~
