0In a groundbreaking announcement, StarWars.com has revealed that a brand new Star Wars movie, directed by Jon Favreau, is set to enter production later this year. Titled “The Mandalorian & Grogu”, the film promises to bring beloved characters from the Star Wars universe to the big screen, building on the success of the Disney+ series.
Jon Favreau expressed his excitement, stating, “I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created. The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.” Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the new characters’ fit for a cinematic story.
The film is part of Lucasfilm’s feature-development slate, which includes projects by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni. Filoni’s film will conclude stories from “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett”, “Ahsoka”, and other New Republic-focused series. Meanwhile, Mangold’s project explores the early days of the Force, and Obaid-Chinoy’s film will follow Daisy Ridley’s Rey in building a new Jedi Order.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” is set to be the first Star Wars film since 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker”. This announcement follows news of other potential Star Wars films, including Rian Johnson’s trilogy, the “Rogue Squadron” movie, and the D.B. Weiss and David Benioff trilogy, with their current status being uncertain.
