71Another War by Mirage Interactive from 2002, was a polish RPG that wanted to make its mark by mixing two things together : Planescape Torment with Indiana Jones
The combination was ... well kinda interesting at first, but the broken combat system ruined the fun .
How broken it was, well ... you could miss with a gun when standing right next to the person you shoot at , also reloading and weapon degradation was so broken ... you kinda forgot you had guns and used only knifes ... so lets talk about KNIFES and Machetes in this game ... or UNARMED combat ... that was so overpowered you could finish this game whole with a unarmed character never using a gun or with a knife psycho ... the combat was so broken a Knife maniac was bullet proof ...
But what about the story line ... well the story was influenced by Polish pop-culture at that time frame of 2000-2002... mostly by TVP1 and TVP2 (its polish TV) and many popular TV series and movies that became cult in Poland like : Allo Allo (Rene and its French resistance) , Indiana Jones , many hospital dramas series , Catch-22, Saving Private Ryan, The Dirty Dozen
So yes the story was kinda good but ... the exploration was also broken ... the map was that is , that was convoluted and confusing ... not showing when you will land when you go left ... also to exit one location you had to find a specific spot and ONLY in this specific spot you could exit the map ... you will see that when i enter the wood section that was beyond broken
So why this lands in my crap pile ... in Poland this game was over hyped like Daikatana , and you got it and you where stunned how bad it was ...
SO a quicky would be : an over hyped game, that wanted to be like Planescape Torment with a good story line... but its broken combat and exploration made you not care about this shit ... even after patches
And here is a funny tidbit : This game from the start was planed as a two part game ... and you see it ... but after the fall out how this game was broken and crap ... they had to redesign the second part and release it under a different named and theme .... introducing "Jak rozpetalem II wojne swiatowa - Nieznane przygody Franka Dolasa" know in America as "Weird War: The Unknown Episode of World War II" ... Another war 2 became ... a movie licenced game based on a CULT polish movie trilogy , about the misadventures of Franko Dolas polish version of Czech misadventures of Soldier Swejk ... was this game good (the second part , redesigned to be a movie tie-in)? yes it was Excellent ... but only if you patched it ... This game had a NASTY game BREAKING BUG in the very fist chapter that hindered your progression and crashed your game ...but after that it was the most funny RPG game you will ever play
IF you ask about the story from the movie "Jak rozpetalem II wojne swiatowa" ... imagine a guy named Franko Dolas that by accident starts WW2 , then lands in German pow prison , escapes in a train , lands in Italian Africa corps , then becomes a cook , a submarine captain , a resistance member , a paratrooper , then somehow lands back in Poland , becomes a demolition commando and stops WW2 ... all this is presented in 3 movies ... the best CULT polish Indiana Jones movie you will ever see ... the original version was black and White, but now thanks to digital technology they colourized it and upscaled it to HD... goggle for it on YT... people uploaded the movie there, ever with ENG subs
