The Mediocre Zone | Evil West (2022) a Gears clone with Vampires, that has Context sensitive actions
2Imagine you are making a story driven TPS shooter with Vampires ... that tires to have lore from FPS Darkwatch a PS2\Xbox1 game from 2005...and use gameplay mechanics from 2009 Damnation ... a Steampunk Vampire Theme TPS disaster ... www.youtube.com/watch?v=HzFeErICx_M
End result, yet another disaster comparable to Damnation... but when Damnation was more a Hard Core Platformer , with Broken Shooting mechanics (but at least it was fun to beat)... in Evil West all actions are context sensitive ... meaning :
- no jumping ,
- no falling off platforms ,
- maps are segment locked by invisible walls,
- Exit is only unlocked by context sensitive actions ,
- you can't shoot enemies from ONE MAP SEGMENT TO ANOTHER MAP SEGMENT (even if that model WOULD STAND NEAR YOU) ,
- Map traversal feels like you RUN IN CORRIDORS , even if you are in BIG OPEN SPACES
- in few chapters all upgrades are FORCED ON YOU ,
- Even Gun Combat is Context sensitive ,
- for 5 Chapters your lead by the hand , running though corridors... of 16
Game Run time is 7 to 8 hours ... to beat its 16 chapters , here are few of them ... that show the Jank of graphics and OVER POLISHED ASSETS you only see for 3 sec ... then good thought out fun game design , with good map traversal that has free movement ...then locking you down in segments
Combat is passable , but the ridiculous plot and story ... the main hook and lure you play a game , is so subpar ... only a bored person would finish it ...
In other words , Give DAMNATION A CHANCE ... its not that bad ...
