In 2097 the first Generation Ship was launched from Sol and was followed by approximately 70,000 others. The Generation Ships were large starships with a self sustaining environment. They were designed to travel interstellar distances at sub light speeds and support generations of colonists for centuries. Once the arrived at their destination, the latest generation would begin colonisation. On April 23, 3303, the first ship that failed to arrive at its destination was discovered. Over the following months, 15 further generation ships were found.
