Most people associate the act of forgiveness with letting people get away with things. People believe that by forgiving others of the wrongs that have been committed against us, they are saying that these actions were OK. This is not the case!
Forgiveness is the strongest and most powerful way that you can move on from all of your past issues. To forgive is to break the continuous bonds of suffering that you are inflicting ON YOURSELF.
If you are honest with yourself, you will see that YOU are the one who is perpetuating the negativity. The event that caused the issues in the first place is long done. When you forgive the other person, the situation, or yourself - you are letting go of the tether that holds you to the suffering. You are saying "I will not be afflicted with this pain anymore, because I have moved on from it."
This is the only true way to let go. This is the only true way to move on.
It is perhaps the hardest thing we will ever do, internally. It forces us to abandon all of the feelings searching for justice, vengeance, or holding onto resentment. But by allowing ourselves to rise above these low vibrations of feelings - we give ourself permission to move forward into an existence that is much less afflicted by the pain and suffering of our past.
