10It’s a bold statement, I know, but the new spider man no way home trailer I believe spoils the fact that in the movie, we will see spider man learn how to cast spells and be a sorcerer. Hear me out.
So, everyone is asking what the heck the box is that spider man is holding in the trailer as Doctor Strange projects him into his astral form. Well, we know from the toys leaking online a few weeks ago that Spider Man will have some blue magic projection that comes from his suit. Everyone was asking how that can be, well what if that box that Doctor Strange gives Spider Man is the key to spider man learning everything about casting spells in the mcu and equipping himself with a suit that can handle that magic projection.
Because think about it, if Doctor Strange successfully makes it so that everyone doesn’t remember that Peter Parker is spider man, then that means Happy Hogan no longer knows who spiderman is, and likely has no recollection of ever helping peter equip himself with the new black and red stark suit. So, how can it be if Peter has a new black and gold suit, without the help of Happy’s access to stark tech? Well, that box that spider man has for sure holds he answers to helping peter instead manifest a suit using magic to help him handle magic with the magic suit on.
Also, I’d like to talk about the call back here. In the fact that how Doctor Strange began his journey as a sorcerer is similar to Spider Man’s. Doctor Strange’s reputation was on the line with the fact that he was this number one surgeon in New York, who now can’t operate on people because of his busted hands, and then seeks out the ancient one who proves magic is real by projecting the astral form out of Steven Strange. Now, let’s look at Spider Man. Spider Man’s reputation is on the line in the fact that Spider Man is now outed as Peter Parker, meaning Spider Man is no longer seen as this number one hero, instead he’s now seen by people as just a high school kid. Which leads him to seek out Doctor Strange, who starts Peter’s journey into the mystical arts by projecting the astral form out of Peter Parker. I love the parallel here which makes Doctor Strange even more relevant to the story of No Way Home.
I mean as relevant to the story as Doctor Strange might be, I think this whole event of the spider verse breaking out could direct Doctor Strange to look at the multiverse as a whole. Now, Doctor Strange is aware that there shouldn’t be a multiverse he understands that there is only 1 way things can go, as he said in endgame about there only being one way to defeat thanos. Meaning, this whole spider verse breaking might send a red flag his way about looking at the now shattered multiverse, and might leave it to Peter, who might now know a thing or two about magic in the film to fix the spider verse, while Doctor Strange has to go off into his sequel to repair the rest of the multiverse. Which could prompt his return in the post credit scene for the no way home film, giving us a teaser for what’s to come in his doctor strange sequel.
