The Nightmare of Rebellion (Touhou RPG): Final Part (Farewell to Saya)
The time for the final battle has come and Nightmare Yukari is an incredibly... manageable boss somehow. As shown in this video, I had moments where I slowed down but that was because the final phase involves Nightmare Yukari doing a deadly spell card that deals 7777 if you do not follow a series of events so I tried to set things up. By the end of the fight I thought I was going to lose because I thought she was going to use it but I would've won even more easily if I just kept attacking.
To be fair, I was lvl 70 once I got there which seems to be really overleveled. Beyond that, from what I understand, after Nightmare Yukari's defeat, she gracefully accepts defeat and everyone returns to their daily lives although Arare drops her rivalry with Saya while Botan/Hagino/Momiji decides to stick in Tono for fun.
Alas, since the events in the game happens 100 years in the past, it means that Saya, the child of Misaki is dead all along in the present. She is essentially Akyuu's outside world counterpart who works to earn Akyuu's reincarnation without knowing it (dunno if she also lives a short life like the Child of Are). We see Yukari paying her respects at Saya's grave and she brings her flower ornament to Akyuu. In a sort of way, the child of Are and Misaki are once again reunited.
To be honest, the epilogues made me rather emotional thanks to the beautiful music themes, a credit segment pretty similar to the one in Super Castlevania IV and then the final epilogue made it sink in that I reached the end of the journey.
In conclusion, despite the many frustrations in the game, I absolutely loved my experience with The Nightmare of Rebellion. It took 72 hours and 34 minutes to finish this run (ignoring the two times I started over which probably means I roughly played 100-150 hrs) and while the main story is over, I will eventually return to NoR to play the expansion content.
Huge thanks goes to everyone who followed the series in any ways and to Validon98 who translated many bits of the game and who's let's play commentaries allowed me to follow the story a little. I wish that someday the full plot could get translated but to be honest, I won't raise my hopes up for such a thing to happen.
