The outer planets, also known as the gas giants, are Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. These planets are called gas giants because they are primarily made up of gas and do not have a solid surface like the inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth, and Mars).
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and is known for its distinctive red spot, a storm that has been raging for hundreds of years. Saturn is famous for its rings, which are made up of ice and rock particles, and its many moons, including the largest moon in the solar system, Titan. Uranus is notable for its unusual tilt, which causes it to essentially roll around the Sun on its side, and Neptune is known for its dark, stormy atmosphere and its many moons, including Triton, which is the coldest object in the solar system.
These four outer planets are located beyond the asteroid belt, which separates the inner planets from the outer planets. They are much farther from the Sun than the inner planets and have longer orbital periods, meaning they take longer to complete one orbit around the Sun.
