Given that Fallout 4 met with a comparatively lukewarm reception several years ago now, the Bethesda-style first-person action RPG would seem to be a rather unsteady foundation for a brand new IP in 2019. The studio behind New Vegas clearly thinks otherwise, however, and The Outer Worlds is blatantly obvious regarding its primary source of inspiration.

While the game's satirical themes of super-charged capitalism on a galactic level are about as appealing to me as a plague of locusts, the vibrant Technicolor-inspired visuals are wonderful and the bullet time-enhanced action tends to be at least mildly entertaining. And while The Outer Worlds does not have an open world like the aforementioned Bethesda titles, there seems to be a lot of player choice and some decent dialogue to be had with companions and NPCs alike.
