The inherent monotony of Death Stranding's gameplay is completely at odds with the insane granularity of its feedback mechanics. Even the most mundane of side quests is broken down into a gazillion of factors, most of which contribute to positive reinforcement for the player upon completion. Gameplay-wise, the endless rows of numbers being rattled off during the debriefing section translate into star ratings and associated bonuses from individual settlements, as well as social media-style "Likes" (basically a resource for engaging in the useful, Dark Souls-esque co-op aspect of the game).
