The Queen of Duellist [ザ・クイーン・オブ・デュエリスト] Game Sample -- PC-98
The Queen of Duellist (or Duelist as it's also known) is one of several titles (the first in the series) of "all-female" fighting games that was released back around 1993 (With a TDOS version dating back to 1991 by Agumix and T. Nakata) and was released on several platforms such as FM Towns and MSX(2). While not as well known as the title often touted for bolstering all-female fighting games, Variable Geo, the series was one of the best competitors on the PC-98 for the early-mid 90s, using well-designed characters with fluid animations, nice usage of colors, and a good soundtrack. It is milder on the adult content than V.G. and just like the first V.G. game, its "story" was paper-thin (seeing one of the characters, Emily, say "OH! Jesus!" is a bit funny though). The first QoD game isn't very good, but Agumix tried hard to make up for this in subsequent releases.
The game has six playable characters, though you can only play with two characters in Story Mode like in "Art of Fighting" (Miyuki Masuda and Emily Barnett). In Versus, player one can only use Miyuki or Emily, but player two can use the other five (can't use who player one uses)... that's kind of stupid. The game is noted in Japanese communities for its great difficulty and completely jacked-up physics and hit detection... well, I can agree with one of those; the hit detection is crap. Each opponent you face has special attacks that they'll spam like nobody's business and they'll clearly hit you EVEN WHEN THEY DON'T EVEN TOUCH YOU. On top of that, the controls are sluggish and certain hits don't deal damage. Special moves don't chip damage when blocked, but opponents can still be difficult to approach. Interestingly, characters possess an all-encompassing block that makes them hop over lower attacks (adding slight realism, though not nearly on the level of Kensei: Sacred Fist). However, if you think this game is tough, I'll dispel that rumor with this video -- I defeat every opponent on the highest difficulty without using a single special attack or throw and I also add some things and do it all in under fifteen minutes. Remember folks; I'm not a pro, I just show things as they are.
Like other versions of the game, playing on higher difficulties rewards you with more adult / hentai pictures while low difficulties reward you with nothing, most CGs only being "mildly suggestive". The game still does not show character endings or game clear pics in the CG Gallery. The game features music and stages for each character, a versus mode, but limited other options. However, winning the game skillfully rewards you with the steps to discover an "Omake Mode". Characters were voiced by various seiyuu.
This is a video of the game in action using Miyuki. CG scenes are censored.
