The Safe Place throws you into a dark cold and grim world of desperation that is everything but a safe place, at least in the demo. But that world is beautifully hand painted and you can walk around it, meet other characters and solve some puzzles. Those puzzles are ranging from interesting to trial and error and that washing machine puzzle at the end of the demo made me nuts, I solved it by pure luck I think. The story is told through still frames that are also hand drawn but not of the same quality as the backgrounds but that can still change in the fill version. Also I find it a bit weird and sad that you can climb over a fence to the electrical box in the first scene, but there is no animation on the character for that, not even for climbing the stairs. The electrical box could be placed somewhere else to easily overcome this.
The music is great and orchestral and yet not distracting. The sound effects are good and fitting and the whole game has great voice acting.
The story is slowly unfolding and paints a picture of desperation and you have to get rid of a corpse pretty fast. It can only get better and deeper, it is off to a great start already.

Synopsis:
This is a deep social point&click adventure drama about tough childhood and self-sacrifice. The Safe Place is part of a trilogy from the developer of Little Kite and Repentant.

The plot of the game is built around an ordinary engineer Alexander, who lived in a post-Soviet city in the early 90's, just in the midst of the economic crisis, as well as a 12-year-old girl Christina with a difficult fate.

He killed a man by negligence. She was a witness. Fearing responsibility, Alexander hides all traces of his crime and persuades the girl to remain silent about what she saw. However, in turn, she asks Alexander to help her solve her own problems.
At first, this seems like a good deal to Alexander, but later on things went all wrong.

The gameplay consists of classic point&click adventure puzzles combined with dramatic plot twists that will send you on an emotional roller coaster ride from sympathy to hate.
