The Scalpers and Bots that ruined the Nvidia RTX 3080 Launch for EVERYONE.
Imagine launching a product where 98% of people (according to a poll on Nvidia Forums) could not get your product. Would you even launch your product? Is it logical to think that the price should actually be higher to meet demand? I'm sure Jensen Huang thinks so. But why bother set the actual MSRP for the RTX 3080 at $2000 and get all the bad press and fan negativity with it? Just let the scalpers set the price and then follow with retailers.
The RTX 3080 launched today and to the surprise of no one, almost everything was scalped. With the help of some nefarious bots, scalpers were able to buy up 30, 40 units of the cards and then sell them online for 3x or 4x the price.
Nvidia responded by saying they're going to do everything they can to review the orders, but let's not feign ignorance here, they knew this would happen. It happens every launch. They know the supply and they know the demand. A billion dollar corporation couldn't organise a launch for fans of their product, but instead sold them all to bots? I just don't believe they couldn't have forseen this.
