Journal Entry #2

It's been a week since the founding of Eplield.
Dylan and I have spent the last few days planning and fortifying the Eplield Longhouse of Awesomeness for potential threats.
Additionally I've spent the last few days tunneling into the earth in the search of answers for this land, as well as the treasures that are rumored to dwell just beneath he surface.
Yesterday I accidentally managed to discover an abandoned mineshaft.
The reason for its abandonment is unclear, along with how long it has sat hidden and restless.
I might've just been tired at the time, but I could've sworn that the cave was speaking to me the tunes of a culture long forgotten.
Dylan has been advising against me venturing further into the mineshaft, apparently he's read on these kinds of things and those who enter will have a curse befall the ones they love.
I usually trust Dylan on these kinds of things but I can't leave everything down there as it is, the kingdom of Eplield needs to grow strong and prosperous, and the key to that dream might lie down there.
I just need to find it.

There's something that worries me about Dylan, something that makes me question the reason on why I invited him along this expedition in the first place.
He's not like any of the others back in the Merchant Cities, he's with me but at the same time he seems distant, alone, yet clever.
He reminds me of a dead branch against the sky.
I knew the second I met him that his importance to both my life and the lives of all that will come to inhabit Eplield is immeasurable, but what exactly that feeling will bring is unknown.

There's another thing I've grown to worry about.
I've noticed a significant increase of goblin sightings on the crests of the hills on the horizon, never any groups, just a single silhouette against the setting sun.
I've spoken with Dylan about the matter but he doesn't seem to worried, in fact he reassured me that even if they were planning harm they wouldn't be able to succeed as goblins aren't usually known for their fighting prowess.
He's probably right, I just have a bad feeling, I'm sure everything will be fine.

I'm leaving in the morning to explore the cursed lands to the East, what I'll find or what will happen I am unsure of; however it is integral that I make sure that Eplield remains free from harm of any kind, even the unexplainable.
