The SECRET of Negative Space in games
Learn about Negative and Positive space in this video as we break down how these art concepts are use in the indie puzzle platformer #Hue. Examining the use of space in several different puzzles that involve swapping colours to be able to move crates, jumps, platforms and lasers into position to be able to traverse the play area.
We also look at some examples of positive and #negativeSpace and talk about Rubin's vase. Rubin's vase is very familiar and recognizable picture where negative space is used to create the illusion of there being both a vase and two profile faces in the same picture.
We also take a brief look at how the developers is using these space techniques in the background of Hue to draw the art style towards a clean, minimalist and simplistic look.
