81In the world of movies, having a sequel be better than the original can be a rare occasion. some franchises, it's the norm where the sequel is better than the original. Most critics will agree that Star Trek 2 the wrath of Khan is vastly superior to Star Trek the motion picture. many will agree that the empire strikes back is better than a new hope. Rocky 2 is beloved more so than the original. The same can be true in video games where the sequels are more beloved than the originals. let's take a look at three video game franchises whose sequels are superior than the originals.
Number 3
RC Pro-Am 2
The original RC Pro-Am is one of my favorite games of all time. It is quintessential rare on the NES, from amazingly fun gameplay, terrific music, and overall just a great time. That's why when I played RC Pro-Am 2 for the very first time, I was blown away at how much better it was than the original. The controls were less slippery, the music if anything was even better, and you had jumps this time. As with the other games on this list it's not that I don't like the original, the sequel just added so much more for me.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2
The original Sonic the Hedgehog was the game that made me want to get a Genesis. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is the game that I actually bought a Genesis to play. much like RC program to, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 built upon the original and, at least in my feeling, is better in every single way. The music that was good became great. The gameplay which was fun became even more refined. The graphics looked sharper. Overall Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is a much deeper and better game than the original, and the original is an absolute masterpiece.

Super Mario Bros 2
I don't care that it's not the real Super Mario Bros. I know it is Doki Doki Panic. I don't care, the US version of Super Mario Bros 2 is the definitive version of Super Mario Bros 2 in my book, and it is the definitive example of what a video game sequel should be. I like the original well enough, but I don't love it as much as I do Super Mario 2. The fact that you could play as four characters, Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad, just took it to the next level. The music is fantastic, the challenge and the levels are great, and this is just an amazing title on its own. Once you consider that it is a sequel of what helped launch the NES makes it even more impressive to me.
