The Settlers '93: An Amazingly Complex Economy Sim On 7 MHz CPU!
The Settlers was one of my favorite Amiga games, and made me fall in love with real-time strategy and city-building games. Originally released in 1993 and then ported to PC DOS the following year, The Settlers, also (un)known as Serf City outside of Europe, gave birth to an entire series, half of which should be best forgotten. The Settlers is also one of the best Amiga games to play even today, for example on the A500 Mini, if you don't dig The Settlers New Allies.
In this video, I talk about my love-hate relationship with The Settlers, the challenges of programming an economy simulation for a 7 MHz CPU, and why you it's not video games that cause violence but playing them with douchebags.
