Of Four Teenagers Who Cloned DOOM for AMIGA 500 (Citadel, 1995)
When Doom hit the PC in 1993, everybody said it was impossible to make a game like that for Amiga. Four highschool teenagers from Poland called bullshit and said โhold our beerโ. They formed a momโs basement-tier development studio called Virtual Design. In 1995, Citadel (Cytadela), their Doom clone, was released in Poland and Western Europe. Not only did it run on Amiga, but it was playable on stock Amiga 500! The caveat was that you needed binoculars to play it, but hey, it was a Doom clone and it ran (or more like walked if you chose bigger screen size) on 7 MHz CPU with 1 MB of RAM. Hereโs the story of how four friends developed something thought impossible at the time after school, and how I remember playing it back in the day.

The footage comes from a fan-made PC port for better resolution and framerate (in retrospect, not the best decision, but I'm planning to make a let's play video of Citadel Remonstered in WinUAE).
