This film is dedicated to the memory of Ryan Karazija, front man and driving force behind Low Roar. 1982 - 2022.

"Sometimes you feel like this is never-ending, but we all fade away."

To Ryan Karazija, the rest of Low Roar & Audrye Sessions, & Hideo Kojima:
Thank you for giving me the inspiration that makes me who I am today.

A Note From Trevor:
"The Ship is finally here and this is an unexpected one. If you haven't noticed by the note above, this film is dedicated to a musician that has shaped me into becoming the storyteller I am today. With his both beautiful and haunting voice and lyrics, Ryan Karazija's music perfectly hit home with me and will remain with me for the rest of my life and it's all thanks to Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding introducing Low Roar to me back in early 2020. The game's use of music as you walk through a desolate landscape inspired the very same directing/editing style you see in this very film and it's a style of storytelling that I hope to carry forward whenever I'm hopefully able to bring my dream movies to life. If I was given a massive budget and all the time in the world, half of the runtime of my movies would be nothing but music video scenes. Hearing all of that sounds very different from what I'm known for in regards to stuff like The Barotrauma Anthology, SCR, and even another Foxhole film I made called The Bridge. Yes, I would make movies like that, but in other types of movies where music would be key, I would happily have scenes where nothing is going on except for licensed music creating the atmosphere or even having music be the key component in an important scene.

The Ship is a very special film to me cause it's the first time I have ever been able to showcase Low Roar in one of my movies and perhaps I hopefully have introduced their beautiful music to you and maybe you'll be in the same position as me. The only regret I have when making this film is not being able to put more of their music in, but the story always comes first. Not to mention that this is the most positive and uplifting movie I've ever made which is surprising given the setting of the movie. The reason why I haven't been able to use Low Roar in my films is because of me respecting their rules of not showing their music in projects that "contains violence, illicit drug use or political content/commentary" without specific prior approval which was something I found out quite recently. Thankfully, this film is the first to avoid such things. I hope so. That and the tone of my films usually not being appropriate for lyrical music and wanting to avoid claims just in case is also a factor too. The Ship is about enjoying life in the darkest of times. No matter what, find the light in the dark and enjoy your life with those around you rather than living in fear. Even in the worst of times, it's not a bad idea to crack a joke or two when everything is all good. Despite the setting, this film has no action scenes, no violence, or anything of the matter that you would expect in a war story and if you're wanting to know what inspired this film, I would point you in the direction of the HBO mini-series Generation Kill. Well, moreso the downtime and the funny scenes of that show instead of the dark moments. And I would also say that a YouTube creator by the name of "J D" is also an inspiration where he uploads the downtime moments of his time in the army where he and his buddies are in good spirits despite where they're at. I recommend watching the video "Christmas Cheer in Iraq" cause that one is quite wholesome and sums up the tone I want to create for this film.

Despite the projects that I usually make, this one I had so much fun putting together and I'm happy to finally show Low Roar's music in one of my movies. Even if I never get the chance to do it again, this was something I wanted to do for years and I'm thankful to be finally able to do so. Thank you for reading this long and rambly note from me and I hope you enjoy the film just as much as I enjoyed making it."
