This is me flailing through most of the menus, modes, and options--but only reaching the first stage and a half in the easiest of them : P--in the Taito-produced PS2 port of Cave's shooter "Ibara."
I do pick among the four different ship types--you have to do this in the Options menu before the game : p--but I'd forgotten that they have different bomb types, so you won't see all of those bombs out here; although I did spend some time lingering on diagrams of the bomb types in the game's Gallery mode, without understanding quite what they represented ; ).
In my notes from back in the day ( http://paleface.net/cgi-bin/gdb/n.pl?c=1029 ) I wrote that you can't continue in Arrange mode, which might be a factor in keeping me going back to Arcade mode, which is much harder, and doesn't let you swap between weapon options you may inadvertently collect.
This and the other PS2 Cave port Taito handled, Mushihimesama, have an unfortunate blur filter over the graphics, making the game's notoriously hard-to-see enemy bullets even harder to see among all the debris the game loves to throw out; in my first run especially I barge straight into pretty much every bullet that comes along. ;_; An option in Arrange mode makes them bigger and brighter, which helps a lot; Arrange mode also lets you hold down the Shot button to fire faster and move slower, making it much easier to dodge tight clusters of enemy bullets.
Normal or Arrange, I obviously need to get a whole lot better at this so I don't keep completely embarrassing myself. : P
