Apollo 17 was the final manned mission in the Apollo program and was launched on December 7, 1972. The crew consisted of Commander Eugene Cernan, Lunar Module Pilot Harrison Schmitt, and Command Module Pilot Ronald Evans. During the mission, the crew spent over 75 hours on the lunar surface, making it the longest moon landing mission and collecting over 110 pounds of lunar rock and soil samples. The mission was a success and marked the end of the Apollo program and the United States' manned moon landing missions. Apollo 17 helped to advance the knowledge and technology of space exploration and is considered a significant achievement in the history of space exploration.
