The Swans are back but only one cygnet is left
The mute swan clutch, which had seven cygnets hatch earlier this spring in 2021, has been missing for about almost 2 months. There is a lot of construction around here, so they likely left for their safety, due to that. Finally last week, I spotted the swan family again! One very big grey cygnet is with them. Unfortunately, the other two remaining cygnets apparently have not survived. These large birds are clumsy when walking. The area they went into has a large provisional road they have to cross. I can only imagine grey swans on a dark road, which could be deadly for the poor cygnets.
Anyway, just conjecture. Swans also have to deal with foxes and the occasional loose dog. And at least the swans are back in their territory here! The construction will be done in about three weeks or so, so hopefully these mute swans stick around and we can enjoy the last months with their cygnet. They will chase him off come December or early in 2022.

The cygnet cannot really be called cute anymore, but he is looking great. They are not scared of us. The swan parents look great too. Actually, they look better then ever. Very white feathers, looking clean and even shinny to a degree.
The swans are back with one cygnet!
