''The Switch'' is a romantic comedy film starring Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman that hits U.S. theaters on August 20, 2010. The film, directed by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, is based on a short story entitled ''Baster'' by Jeffrey Eugenides.

In ''The Switch,'' Jennifer Aniston stars as Kassie, a 40-year-old woman who decides she wants to get pregnant through insemination. Bateman is Kassie's best friend Wally, a Wall Street investor who offers his sperm for the process. Kassie turns him down, deciding instead to go with "dashing" donor Roland (played by Patrick Wilson). At an insemination party for Kassie, Wally secretly replaces Roland's donor sperm with his own. The trouble is: he doesn't remember doing it. Years later, Kassie and her son Sebastian (played by Thomas Robinson), return to New York and Wallly slowly begins to form a bond with the child.

Reviews for ''The Switch'' were mixed leading up to the movie's release. ''The Switch'' garnered a 60 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes' "Tomatometer" on August 18th. Critic Kirk Honeycutt of ''The Hollywood Reporter'' said that "Despite a virtually unplayable premise, "The Switch" overcomes this handicap to turn itself into a friendly, offbeat romantic comedy." Honeycutt went on to praise performances by both Aniston and Bateman in the lead roles. The ''Village Voice'''s Karina Longworth also offered praise for Bateman's performance in ''The Switch,'' saying "Saddled with the responsibility of carrying the film, Bateman acquits himself admirably by playing it straight." ''Variety'''s Andrew Barker's review of the ''The Switch'' was pretty straightforward - and not positive. Barker called ''The Switch'' "An unfunny, manipulative romance about two unlikable people and their prop of a son."

Bottom line: if you are a fan of romantic comedies and like Jennifer Aniston and Jason Bateman, you might enjoy ''The Switch.'' It's too soon to say how it will fare in theaters, but as Kirk Honeycutt of ''The Hollywood Reporter'' points out, ''The Switch'' "will have to rely on the actors' drawing power if it hopes to score midlevel box office grosses."
