I'm releasing this song much to the ire of one of my friends who told me not to. I'm insistent that I'm going to release a version it on streaming services before it comes out on an album in a different key in approximately... eventually. I understand her concerns and I'm choosing to willingly ignore them. When I've been sitting on a song for four months, I'd rather release it than leave it until the album is done. With that in mind, this version won't be on streaming services forever. It'll go away when the album comes out, but this version will be up as a means to show a bit of progression and a special early version.
So... I SANG IN A VIDEO! I've been really practicing, largely inspired by Periphery's vocalist Spencer Sotelo. Absolomb and Satellites are the songs I've been using to practice. In fact, Satellites is the main inspiration for this track. I took advantage of the tape delay simulation in Helix Native to get my delay effects. It created a really nice warmth, although nothing can compare to a real tape delay, like the one used in Satellites. But I also used some analog synth emulation for a good majority of the backing synths. AND, most importantly, I was able to get a bunch of my friends involved for the choir section before the outro. It came out so sick and I'm immensely proud of it!
Lyrically speaking, I wrote this after I announced my break from covers back in March. It's actually about my burnout and how I felt like the work I was putting into my covers wasn't ever being paid off, and how I wished I could go back to before I cared about that and was just making something fun. That is the unfortunate truth of how 2022 had been going up until the Kokiri Forest cover, and this track was just me venting those emotions in the only way I know how.
