TF2 is getting a bigger update this summer that it has for years - but does that make it a "major" update?

ANY update to TF2 is exciting, and I am looking forward to it as I'm sure you are too! But as a community which has fallen victim to multiple derailed hype trains in the past, I felt I might be able to help set expectations at least a little bit. It's much better to have low expectations and be pleasantly surprised than to have wild elaborate ones and be disappointed.

To be honest, I saw a surprising number of big voices in the community using the word "major" and acting as if Valve had announced something revolutionary with this blog post and I just can't understand why. It's not right or fair to hype the community up for something that simply hasn't been advertised. I hope my "voice" in the community can be heard as a voice of reason and not one of negativity or - maybe even worse - one of unjustifiable hype.

Again I want to stress - this is still AWESOME. We're going to get new content on a new scale not seen before in summer, and the fact that this appears to have been at least partly prompted by Crash et al's open letter is a reassuring sign that Valve is actually listening. Sorry if this is in any way putting a negative spin on an otherwise exciting moment, I just love y'all and don't want to see you hurt because some community hubbub led you to expect something that simply was never going to happen ❤
