The Thing From Beyond: Fear of The Unknown (Game Archetype Library)
The "thing from beyond" is an archetype that englobes different types of creatures that don't constrain themselves to the expectations of human comprehension. From the mimics and bodysnatchers, heavily influenced by "The Thing From Space", specially John Carpenter's rendition of it (Final Fantasy VII, Among Us), to the powerful entities that corrupt the environment, sometimes, without even being visible, similar to the outer gods of the Lovecraftian cosmic horror (World of Warcraft, Elden Ring), these things are a common theme in horror and science fiction, but not restricted to these genres. In this video, we take a quick look at the origin and some characteristics of the archetype.
