Alright, so having had the ideas for this film for quite a while, I decided in January this year to run a live vote on the LemonAmiga forums to see just what the forum fans thought was the worst games of all time. (yeah I could have used the Lemon Worst 100 list but I thought that would be a bit boring). So I ran a voting league for two weeks, 42 games were votes for, and each of the top 10 got at least five votes.
I contacted Matt Barton and Filmnstuff to give them the heads up of what I intended to do - which they were sceptical about but they gave the thumbs up; so off I went, trawling through all their back catalogue of many hundreds of videos, and took many hundreds of samples and clips. Sometimes I knew exactly what I wanted, and went looking for those words, sometimes I found little sound-bytes that I knew would be great in the video. It even went down to finding odd words (and halves of words sometimes!) to get just what I wanted. (I'm 99.9% happy, except I was struggling to get the word 'Ronny' to come out right as a mashed up word). After that it was a long process trying to put all this into some kind of coherency. Of course I tried to pack in as many dry jokes in there as possible - even down to the fact that I have Matt playing Belial (which I thought was funny in itself) with the Matt Chat 'Boom' played whenever he dies. As it ended up, I had Matt playing Platformers and Beat 'em Ups, Filmnstuff playing Racing games, and I played Soccer games;- all of which being the polar opposites of what we normally prefer to play!
Bug fixing took MUCH longer than I thought on this. Levelling out the volume for all of those tiny clips turned out to be a notable problem, and I even had to spend a day re-sampling half of the sampled audio again to remove clicks and background music, etc. I was also concious of the fact that guys would be initially paying for this, so I worked even harder to make sure it was something worth paying for. I hope and pray that I did that, and that you enjoyed it without feeling ripped off.
The whole thing probably took about 3 weeks of constant editing to get it up to scratch, with the last four days being spent filtering out all the bugs, and adding a few extra things. During those weeks I must have seen this video a dozen times, but each time I still laughed along with the gags - so I hope that's a good indication of quality control. ;)
As to why the video fades out at the end without summing up Outrun, well the gag here was the fact that words cannot describe how bad this game is, as indicated by the small pause before the Thank You. So when Matt runs out of things to say..well... that's it.
Okay, so.. I guess... thanks for watching... and I really do hope that I'll be able to come back to the Amiga at some point and make more of these videos for you guys.
