Phil Fish, the developer of Fez, has said that he’s leaving the games industry and selling his company Polytron and the rights to the Fez IP after a messy Internet scandal. I’ve been following this whole thing as it has unfolded and to give you a very basic account of what has happened - and I’m keeping it basic to avoid adding fuel to a very messy, and honestly kind of disgusting fire here – the ex-boyfriend of indie game developer named Zoe Quinn posted a very large, very detailed account of her alleged relationships with other members of the games industry.

This sparked an internet harassment campaign against Quinn and Quinn and Phil Fish was involved when he openly supported her. Hackers then uncovered Fish’s social security information and passwords, and compromised various sensitive accounts, including Polytron’s PayPal. The same happened to Quinn, though a lot of the Twitter abuse is suggesting that the two actually hacked themselves for attention.
