CD Projekt Red is significantly expanding the development teams for both The Witcher 4 (codenamed Polaris) and the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel (codenamed Project Orion). The total developer headcount at CD Projekt Red has increased to nearly 800 people as of August 2025, a stark reversal from layoffs two years prior.
In this report, the studio has confirmed that its team working on The Witcher 4 has grown from 422 as of April 30 to 444 as of the end of July. Similarly, Cyberpunk 2’s team has grown from 96 as of April 30 to 116 as of July 31.
The Witcher 4 (Polaris)
As of July 2025, the team for The Witcher 4 has grown to over 440 developers and is the largest development group at the studio.
The project entered the full production phase in November 2024, making it the most advanced of CD Projekt Red's upcoming titles.
A release is not expected before 2027, given development timelines for games of this scope.
The team intends to build on the storytelling philosophy of The Witcher 3 while introducing new gameplay elements and moving the saga forward.
Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel (Project Orion)
The sequel's team saw significant growth in 2025, expanding from 96 to 116 developers between April and July. The company plans to double the team's size in the near future.
As of May 2025, the game has officially moved from the conceptual phase into pre-production.
The game is still years away, with some projections not expecting it until the late 2030s.
The team aims to apply lessons learned from the original Cyberpunk 2077 to build upon the franchise's potential and create a more dynamic world.
