This is an arrangement of Koji Kondo's main theme from Super Mario Bros. I have arranged it for native playback on SNES hardware, and the audio was recorded directly from a launch model SNES console.

I've been working on this one for a little while, what with this month marking the 35th anniversary of the release of the game.

Everybody loves the music from the Mario games. It's so bouncy, happy, and it's totally unforgettable after you've heard it just once.

For this arrangement, I decided to play with part of an old "dance mix" medley that was put out in Japan back in 1989 on a CD titled "Super Mario Bros. 1.2.3. Hop! Step! Jump!" It's an 11 minute track, so i clearly didn't do the whole thing, but I arranged the portions of it that I liked the best. (I highly recommend looking it up, it's actually quite well done!)

I didn't totally stay true to the CD mix that I based this on. I changed some instruments, altered some of the rhythms, and I totally rewrote the accompanying guitar part. The samples I used were mainly recorded from Roland SC88 and Oberheim Ob-Xa patches, with the drums being a mishmash from several sources that I can no longer recall.

I was really happy with how it all came out in the end. The chorused guitars really reminded of a lot of early 90s music that I like, so this was pretty fun to make. I hope you enjoy it!
