I just watched the Hodgetwins video “Black Riot BREAKSOUT on CAMPUS After MAGA Debaters Trigger BLACK Students!”, and my jaw dropped. Two guys show up to respectfully debate — they bring signage, they talk, they try to engage. But soon they’re met by shouting mobs, physical blocking, threats, and being forced off campus. That’s not debate. That’s suppression. In this reaction, I call out those who turned a dialogue into a mob, support those who came to talk, and demand that university leaders — especially at historically Black campuses — ensure that speech isn’t drowned out by intimidation.

The MAGA debate group arrived at Tennessee State University with signs like “DEI should be illegal” and “Let’s Talk.” Things escalated quickly.

Students and attendees confronted them loudly, pushed back. Videos show physical blocking, heated confrontation.

TSU’s official position: the group came without prior approval, university policy requires permits for demonstrations; staff and campus police escorted them off.

In response, some say Lemon has been defended; some say the university is federalizing suppressing speech under cover of “safety.” (Though not proven)

Why I’m Critical of those who shut them down & Support the Debaters:
Because democracy requires debate, not suppression. If someone comes to your campus to talk — even if you disagree — you can’t react by silencing them with mobs. Power isn’t demonstrated by shouting the loudest. I respect the guys who stayed civil, who wanted a conversation. Shutting them down by force or mob pressure is exactly what kills discourse. Universities — especially HBCUs — should foster dialogue, even with views they reject — not mirror culture war mobs.
