This Avowed Character is UGLY!
I was just talking about good and bad criticism, and this is a good example of bad criticism. The video game Avowed got some backlash from the anti-woke crowds because of the pronouns. I'll let you be the judge of whether that's good or bad criticism, but this next one is definitely not good.
This character over here is from Avowed. Wow. That character looks ugly as sin, right? That is a horrendous looking character and it's another installment of "woke" media making everything ugly.
The thing is that character is actually created by an IGN journalist who deliberately made her ugly. This isn't a deliberate choice from game developers. This is a character made to be ugly just for fun. There's nothing "woke" about doing that. In fact, that's what makes video games fun.
So, no. This is not a sign of Avowed being "woke" or another sign of the western media making everything ugly. It's the pronouns that are a sign of Avowed being "woke." There are also other signs like the game's art director wanting to make people angry by putting pronouns in the game, the game's Twitter X account blocking people who asked about the pronouns, and if you remember Obsidian's previous game The Outer Worlds, their female cast mostly consist of women with short hair, and they don't look that appealing. If anything, Avowed looks like a major step-up from that.
Look, at the end of the day, it's not about whether the "woke" content bothers you. It's about using the right examples to make your point. If you're going to call something "woke," at least point to the right targets and the right examples, and not spread things taken out of context.
