This glitch isn't repeatable anymore. Help?

I honestly don't know what to think. I do have a few guesses:

- The hardlock saves onto your save file, slightly corrupting it.
- It was a pixel-perfect trick and I got it dozens of times in a row.
- The game can detect if an HDMI splitter is being used.
- The effect in the first clip was an emulator-only glitch (highly unlikely).
- Something to do with purchased gadgets?

I don't believe that a glitch can "lose" its ability to be reproduced. I must be missing something.
