21This is the Shrinking Soma and I will solve it in this video.
Shrinking Soma is designed by the Doctor, Volker Latussek and made by Pelikan. As usual the wood and craftsmanship is excellent.
The reason it’s called the shrinking soma is because the loose pieces are actually a soma cube.
When placed the standard soma cube into the box, you will realise that it is not filled at all. The box is a 4 by 4 by 4 in size, so it is 37 voxels less if I do the maths correctly.
The goal for this puzzle is to fit the 6 soma pieces into the box, so that the top layer of the box is completely filled. The pieces should be free standing, I.e. supporting themselves. The extra challenge is that at the solved state, the pieces will remain stable, meaning it will not collapse even when it is shaken.
This is an ingenious puzzle, and you should really try it out!
