Battalion Legacy is a free to play fps game set in WW2. So you may remember sometime in 2018 or 2019 there was a bunch of hype over a new ww2 first person shooter called Battalion 1944 that promised to bring back the old, fast paced style of games like Day of Defeat and Call of Duty 2, and for a while it felt like every content creator on the planet was making videos about it, but then one day it just sort of vanished along with its entire player base, and everyone just sort of forgot about it and moved on with their lives.

Well now that game’s randomly turned up again, this time as a free to play shooter called Battalion Legacy, complete with a whole new faction and a fair bit of polish, though I don’t have anything to compared it to since I never played it the first time around.

Honestly though it’s actually not that bad if you’re into arcade shooters! It’s basically a fast paced 5v5 arena shooter set in a vaguely historically accurate representation of ww2, just with extra bunny hopping and dolphin diving.

Now don’t get me wrong it’s not gonna win any awards and it’s certainly not up there with the likes of Battlefield V or Hell Let Loose, and I can completely understand why it failed as a pay to play game when it came out because it’s the very definition of a cookie cutter experience, but as far as free to play stuff goes, it’s definitely not the worst I’ve seen!

I’m not normally a fan of twitch shooters and quick scoping and all that crap but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a fair bit of fun running around in rifle only Team deathmatch practising my mad flick shot skills, and I was quietly impressed by the list of 30 different weapons you can use from 4 separate factions including the US, Germany, Russia and Great Britain.

To be fair though there isn’t really any need for there to be 30 weapons in the game since a handful of them stand out as been far better than the rest with most people using the same few weapons because they’re so much better than the rest, namely the BAR, Kar98 and Scoped Mosin Nagant rifle.

There’s 2 different game modes including Search and Destroy which is basically the soul sucking sweaty corner peeking mode in Counter Strike where you’ve gotta plant the bomb and defend it until it blows, and when you die you’ve gotta wait for the next round before you can respawn. But there’s also a Team Deathmatch mode which I found to be a lot more fun, mainly because it lets you respawn as often as you want so you can come at it more like a traditional arena shooter where you just to try out frag the other team. There’s also the possibility that I just suck at shooters so I need a crutch to help me stay interested for more than 20 seconds.

There’s no drivable vehicles in the game either in-case you’re wondering and I haven’t checked how many maps there are but after about 3 hours in-game it felt like I’d seen them all about 3 times so there’s probably not many.

I think it might appeal to anyone that wants to play something like Enlisted or Heroes & Generals but without any of the grindy MMO mechanics.

Anyway I’m not gonna go on all day about this game cos it’s a relaunch of a fairly ordinary shooter that was over-hyped to the max the first time around, but I wanted to help share the news that it’s now free for anyone on a tight budget that’s looking for a new game to play for a few hours.

So there ya go! I’ll catch you guys in the next video and until then as always, thanks for watching, have fun and stay wholesome!
