News about the new VOIP system coming to ww2 online as well as info on Chokepoint and ww2 online 2.0! Discord https://discord.gg/pK4Y3HRG4h

WW2 Online is a persistent first person shooter and war simulator set on a massive map of Europe that came out way back in 2001, and despite its age it’s still pretty much in a league of its own when it comes to the sheer amount of content on offer, with a decent level of simulation in the air with fighters and bombers, at sea with the huge multi-gunned destroyers and a massive ocean to sail on, and on land both on foot and in tanks, with full multi-crew support for every vehicle, and now they’re finally adding support for VOIP directly in the game so you’ll be able to communicate directly with other players using your mic, without needing any 3rd party software such as Teamspeak or Discord.

For a game that’s over 20 years old it’s doing pretty well for itself, with a small but dedicated bunch of players that play regularly, and a massive community supporting them from way back in the day waiting for the release of ww2 online 2.0, and although it looks a little bit dated graphically, it still supports stuff like ragdoll physics so you can see bodies flopping off roofs and out of windows when you shoot them, an incredibly detailed armour penetration system, not to mention a map that’s bigger than pretty much any other game in the genre at over 55,000 square kilometres, so you can fly or sail or even walk from the south east coast of England all the way over to Germany without any loading screens and all while being on the same single server as everyone else.

They’ve also got some major updates in development to bring it in-line with more modern games, including a total remake of the entire game on the Unreal Engine 5 engine which they’ve already started working on, and a second, smaller scale shooter called WW2 Online Chokepoint, previously known as a Source mod called Rise & Liberation, that I’ll be covering in more detail in a future video so be sure to subscribe if you wanna see more because I’ll be doing quite a few videos on these 2 games over the coming months.

Think of it as being similar to games like Hell Let Loose or Post Scriptum, except instead of loading into a single map and fighting it out until the match ends and another map loads in, you instead have to drive or paradrop with your squad from the nearest allied base to wherever you want to go in the world, all on one huge, open world map, with no loading screens or breaks in the immersion.

You’ve then got to work closely with your team to set up an attack using deployable spawn points, tanks, transport trucks and air support to scout for enemy positions and capture the town, with battles potentially taking place anywhere along the way, meaning if you want to set up an ambush with your friends along a random road 20 minutes drive away from the nearest town, there’s nothing stopping you doing it. Finally once the town’s captured the match doesn’t just end, it just changes the flag flying over the town on the map and then you head off to plan your next move somewhere else.

Because there’s no loading screens the match runs until once side has basically completely dominated the other which can take months, with campaigns starting out in the early war period with only tank models available from the British, French and Germans like the Renault R35 and Panzer II, gradually unlocking more and more stuff as the war progresses to eventually include the Americans with more modern vehicles and weapons for both sides, like the M1 Garand, P38 Lightning and the German FW-190.

The longest single battle I remember taking part in was over 6 hours long as I helped the axis defend a town from a near constant attack by the allies, and to this day it’s still one of the most epic moments I’ve ever had while gaming and we actually managed to repel the attack until reinforcements arrived with better equipment to make the defense slightly easier. With built-in voice comms though it would have been so much better.

Without doubt though one of the biggest selling points of more modern shooters is the ability to use your voice to talk directly to other players in your squad and around you in the world, and finally, after many years of waiting, we’ll soon have the ability to talk, sing and yell at each other directly in-game, which will hopefully open the game up to more players and make it easier to create those insanely epic and hilarious moments you get in stuff like Hell Let Loose.

It’ll work in a similar way to other games, with 2 different voice channels with a separate key binding.
