Through the town in IRIS PC-9 - First flight.
On Friday I've got a real treat for testing - IRIS PC-9. The model is absolutely fantastic and it shot of pretty high up on my personal list right (right on top to be precise) along with the Lotus Simulation L39 Albatros it's one of the best flight models for FSX/P3D. I think everybody already knows I have a weak spot for the L39 so putting the IRIS PC-9 next to it might give you a clue how good it is. It's pretty full on from start up till landing - the airplane is very agile, handles very well and it's easy to understand why the RAAF is using it as trainer for the F-18. The Best thing about the PC-9 is the plane inertia - Hi G turns have no cartoon physics and you can really feel the plane "drifting" through. Feels just like being up there and diving to the ground or flying low level is definitely more exciting and requires good judgement. NOTE: Before flying one golden rule must apply - RTFM (i'm usually using manual as a last resort but in this case I would recommend it as a first). The manual explains how to link throttle with FSUIPC, the flight envelope and limitations, start up and checklist. Important note is regarding hot starts (and how FSX treats them) and few other bits and pieces. Without the important knowledge you'll miss on lot of fun.
Disclaimer: I never flew real PC-9 so I can not compare directly. And I didn't have to pay for this addon - however this have no effect on my opinion or how the airplane flies and behaves - the airplane physics spot on and exactly the same as I would expect from airplane with this construction and it is a joy to fly - you'll see more vids featuring the PC-9. That's for sure :-)
