After regaining consciousness from Old Erik's attack, Espen's mom explores a nearby cave with an entrance in the shape of a wolf's mouth. Inside, Old Erik's shrine of toys displays the vast collection of keepsakes he's taken from the village children. The Registry of Little Heroes is a book of names that seems to list children who have been sacrificed, willingly or not.

On the next leg of her journey through the woods, Espen's mom overhears the chatter of wolves that are hungry for blood. Her only defenses are the flashlight and a torch of fire
