Tiktaalik I | Original Music (Singer-songwriter)
This is the first song from the 2014 concept album "Tiktaalik", called Tiktaalik I.
The album Tiktaalik takes its name from an ancient fish that had the bones homologous to our wrists. An evolutionary step towards terrestrial life, and a move that would eventually lead to us, the Human species.
The concept focuses on hindsight, the rise of life to fullness and its eventual fall into emptiness, the cycle that we are inevitably part of. Whatever rises eventually falls. Was Tiktaalik wise to take those first tentative steps towards Humanity?
This is a progressive album with seven tracks, none of which really has a chorus.... Enjoy!
Tiktaalik I lyrics:
"I am part of the sea
I am part of the land
I breathe with lungs so sensitive to the air
I travel on legs unable to run
I can't stray far from home
I am only a beginning
Cataclysmic apocalypse
The last solar eclipse
Where once Tiktaalik stood
Would he return if he could?
If he knew the way the world would turn
Return to the oceans
Retreat to the seas
The passage of time is a painful lesson
Go
Stop
The march of the Human empire
The throbbing of the drums
Pulsating, rumbling, breathing
Thundering in lockstep
Born of an idealogy to reach superiority
Soon to decay to anarchy, disappear to the bones of history"
