TikTok Tests 60-Minute Video Uploads
TikTok is currently trialing a new feature allowing users to upload videos of up to 60 minutes in length, signaling its ambition to expand its platform beyond short-form content and into the realm of long-form video, akin to YouTube. While this feature is presently being tested with a limited user group in select markets, TikTok aims to cater to creators seeking more extensive video formats for various content genres, such as cooking demonstrations, beauty tutorials, educational lessons, and comedic sketches.
Initially launched with a 15-minute upload limit, similar to YouTube's earlier restrictions, TikTok has progressively extended its upload duration over the years. The platform acknowledges feedback from creators expressing a desire for more flexibility in content creation, prompting the introduction of this extended time limit. By offering creators the ability to explore new or expanded content formats within a single video, TikTok aims to streamline the viewing experience, eliminating the need to navigate through multiple clips.
Moreover, the extended upload limit paves the way for the posting of full episodes of TV shows directly on the platform, eliminating the need for fragmented uploads. Previously, platforms like Peacock had to divide episodes into multiple parts for TikTok, but with the extended upload duration, users can now enjoy seamless viewing experiences without interruption.
In addition to the longer video upload feature, TikTok is also experimenting with a horizontal full-screen mode, complete with video-scrubbing thumbnails, further aligning its interface with the user experience offered by YouTube.
