JerryRigEverything and AppleTrack have both conducted bend tests on the device, and their findings suggest that the new iPad Pro demonstrates impressive durability against extreme force, withstanding bending remarkably well under normal usage conditions.
In their evaluation, AppleTrack compared the performance of the M2 iPad Pro with the new M4 iPad Pro. While the M4 iPad Pro emerged almost unscathed from the test, the M2 iPad Pro exhibited a noticeable curl near the camera corner. JerryRigEverything commended the device for its exceptional structural integrity, particularly when subjected to horizontal bending.
However, when subjected to vertical bending, the device showed signs of vulnerability, likely due to the force acting against the axis of the reinforced internal structure and the susceptibility of the charging port openings at the bottom.
Despite being capable of flexing under significant force, the iPads generally return to their original shape under normal circumstances. The tests revealed that the force required to cause a permanent bend far exceeds that encountered in typical daily use scenarios.
Remarkably, even after enduring extreme levels of force, all the iPads remained functional, including their cameras and touchscreen responsiveness, albeit with visibly curved and damaged glass surfaces.
Based on these initial assessments, it appears unlikely that we will witness a recurrence of the #BendGate controversy that arose in 2018 with the introduction of the new form factor 2018 iPad Pro. Unlike its predecessor, the latest 2024 generation of iPads does not exhibit similar susceptibility to bending. However, users should still exercise caution, especially when carrying their iPads in bags with heavy items such as books.
