Time Lapse Charcoal Drawing
This piece is done with no reference, entirely freehand. It's the final project for my figure drawing course. The purpose of the project is to draw an example of the figure using style as the premier focus, rather than JUST a realistic depiction. I was supposed to have specific artists in mind, but in all honesty, I just went with my own flow. I draw from a lot of different artists, though not quite obviously. In particular, I'd been eyeing a lot of Elizabeth Peyton and Alex Katz, though I doubt any of that comes through.
Tools used: Sargent Art Chalk Pastels charcoal, gum eraser, plastic eraser, 2x smudge sticks, 2 charcoal pencils, paper towels.
Before the video, I started with a base gray using charcoal and a paper towel to smooth it out. I then used a plastic eraser to sketch in the basic figure and check my proportions. That's where the video starts.
