Tinker Tailor Stalker Spy: #485 ( Tailor ) Bandit Kruglov On-Line NPC Failure
I'm not a Bandit. My name is not Kruglov. My job is to infiltrate whichever Factions that I choose, in order to investigate and track down the new prototype weapons and ammunition, that has entered the Zone. My first success with this has been when I joined the Bandit Faction. I am the Tailor.
Encrypted Diary: I had taken the Loner job of "Problem Solver" to kill a Monolith named Tolik Sawn-off. From the start, my target had always been in another location, well beyond where I wanted to go. I was simply going to wait until the target arrived in the same level as me, if I was going to go after them. When I checked my PDA, just after midnight, I suddenly realized Tolik Sawn-Off was at the smaller Jupiter Factory complex, directly south of the Concrete Bath anomaly. I immediately took off after him.
* Game Note: This video is a great example of having an NPC target, that I just realized was in the same level as me, but as they were about to leave the level. That is why I made a manual save and then reloaded it, which can frequently get an NPC to reverse direction. This only seem to make the target hesitate right by the level changer. I immediately left Yanov Station and started sprinting south to meet them. In my first attempt, the Monolith left Jupiter and was now south in the Red Forest. When I arrived at the scene, I saw there was a Duty squad at the concrete bridge, just outside the same complex that the Monolith had left from.
So, I had no choice but to try and reload my save made when all this started and try again. Again, I took off running south and this time the reverse direction trick worked. As I ran south, I watched my Monolith target leave the complex and started walking north exactly as I wanted. As I was just northeast of the Checkpoint, I suddenly got the message that the Dutyers, that I knew where in the area, had just killed Tolik Sawn-off. His death by others meant not only failure for me but added a -50 point drop to my Loner DFR relations, meaning it just got worse.
As I got closer, Duty complained about more Monolith and I saw two Monolith outside the gate, going to the Jupiter Plant. I zapped and looted them. When I looked down into the Concrete Bath basin, I saw the Dutyers and several bodies about them. Even though I risked further damaging my Loner relations, their allies, I killed two of the Dutyers to get to all the Monolith loot. I'm still trying to catch one of them with the Prototype weapon. There was a lot of loot, that I took back to Yanov Station at the end of this video.
Basically, I realized I caused the failure by rushing to the scene. The Monolith and Dutyers were all out of range ( off-line ) of me at Yanov but when I approached them before the Checkpoint, I made them go on-line. Suddenly as the Dutyers and Monolith got within range and went on-line, that's when the Dutyers saw my target and killed him.
