Hi everyone, here is a tip for how to repair a hard drive for a ps3, you will need a usb pen drive ideally over 512mb and a way of powering your hard drive and connecting it to usb port so computer will recognise it
There are a lot of steps:
1) remove hard drive from ps3
2) plug ps3 hard drive into pc.
3) if hard drive doesn't appear go to your computer hard drive disk partition software called disk management. it will tell you what's wrong with your hard drive. if the hard drive doesn't appear then you will likely need a new one. if it does but its coloured black instead of blue then you will need to:
4) click on new simple volume and, if necessary, format. the computer will reformat back to ntfs.
5) download and install gui fat32 formatter if you haven't got it.

6) click on gui fat32 formatter, say yes to run as administrator and then start on gui fat32 formatter - it will reformat back to fat32 format which the ps3 will recognise.
7) unplug hard drive from pc and refit back in ps3.
8) download latest ps3 firmware to usb pen drive, make sure the pen drive has no other files on it and is also fat32 formatted.

9) go into pen drive right click and click on new folder and rename it PS3, then double click on it, right click and new folder called UPDATE, double click on that and copy ps3updat.pup download into that folder.
10) plug controller into ps3s left usb, pen drive into right usb (or 2nd left usb if you have 4 port usb PS3 - the backward compatible one) and follow the instructions.
