TRANSCRIPT/COMMENTS:
00:00 You hit, I think, 11 of your first 12 threes. Obviously not sustainable, but a lot of them did seem like to be the drive-and- kick kind of variety. Shots were feet set. Is this obviously the way it's supposed to work? Did you like the way that worked setting up those threes?
00:17 STEVE KERR: Much better tonight than it did the other night, just kind of getting into our offensive rhythm and it's creating better shots for each other. Thought we played with more energy, more bounce, and those things often go hand in hand, so it's a good night.
00:34 We talked during training camp about Kevon working on his shot, shooting threes in Hawaii. I mean, he's working that mid- range and he looks just a little bit lighter on his feet. How important was that for him to add back into his game, especially as you guys just evolve your offense? You have Trayce in the mix, those kind of things.
00:54 Yeah. Yeah, he worked really hard all offseason on his body, on his skill, took thousands of shots. And he's playing well. He's having a really good camp, and it's always fun to see Loon playing at this level where he's healthy and impacting the game and yeah, we want him, if he's open, we want him to shoot and I love the little mid- range when it's wide open like that after a good offensive possession. That's exactly the shot we want. And then he took the one three. Absolutely, like, it's not like he's coming down and shooting in transition. I mean, Loon knows exactly what the right shot is and what's not. So, yeah, he looks good.
01:41 And then with Jonathan, how have you seen him just grow throughout the handful of preseason games that you have had with him playing in that 3 position?
01:49 Well, he's shooting the three much more confidently, clearly. There's no hesitation. Looks like he's getting better balance on his shot. And we want the catch- and- shoot when he's open. The one thing we don't want is guys to catch and hold. So we've got a ton of guys on this team who can shoot threes. We can move the ball well if we execute our offense. We should have plenty of nights like tonight where we get 18 threes and a bunch of guys all making two, three. It's a fun way to play.
02:28 With Jonathan shooting confidently from three and he's hit over half of his threes in a small sample this preseason, is that just the biggest factor for you in terms of him playing the three?
02:39 It's one of the factors. The ball movement, as well, we're just trying to find rhythm to the offense. And so it's recognition of circumstances, spacing, all that stuff, but it's a five- man combination, so he can play the 3 with the right guys. And if we can continue to improve offensively, hopefully he can play the three with more than just the right guys.
03:11 I know it's all jumbled with Steph and Draymond out and Andrew and it's preseason, but you go with the first substitution is Kyle Anderson and GP2 together, long, defensive, can switch everything. Do you like that combination? Do you see something there with those two guys?
03:27 I do. they're both elite defenders and both really smart. Kyle was a plus- 21 in 13 minutes, didn't even make a shot, but that's what he does. He makes an impact on the game, without it showing up on the stat sheet. So yeah, we're getting a look at a lot of different combinations, and it's all valuable info for us.
03:54 And Melton, I guess the shot wasn't going in much tonight, but seven assists, you've called him a connector. It's like you can start him, you can play him on the second unit, play him with both units. Where is he fitting for you in…
