Tony Christie releases new single for forces charity 26.10.11
Singer Tony Christie who had a smash hit with "Is This The Way To Amarillo" has released a new single -- "Steal the Sun" - in aid of the charity Afghan Heroes. The fundraising track was recorded with the Band of Royal Marines and the RAF Choir at the world famous Air Studios in Hampstead - one of the few recording studios in the UK large enough to accommodate the nearly 100 musicians that accompanied the singer. Afghan Heroes was set up in July 2009 by Denise Harris in memory of her son Lee who died in an explosion in Afghanistan whilst serving with the Royal Tank Regiment. The charity gives direct and practical support to our soldiers in Afghanistan by sending them home comforts every year on Armed Forces Day as well as providing Holiday Homes in the UK and a support network to the families of the Fallen. Tony Christie said "I am honoured to be supporting Denise and her extraordinary charity. This lovely song is a fitting tribute to both Afghan Heroes and their work as well as to the courageous men and women who so bravely serve our country in Afghanistan. We aim to raise much needed funds for the charity through this initiative and I very much hope the media will support us in our efforts by providing as much coverage as they can." Funds raised from the sales of the this track will all go to Afghan Heroes and will be used to make the lives of young men and women in Afghanistan more bearable.
