UK trained snatch squads seek Taliban 28.10.11
A special Afghan police "snatch squad" has been trained by British mentors to go into towns and villages of Helmand on high risk raids for Taliban leaders. The final class to pass through the tough six-week programme at Camp Leatherneck could be staging search and arrest operations as early as next month. The fifteen recruits have been schooled by Air Force soldiers of the RAF Regiment and Danish Special Forces. Flt Lt Tom Foskett said: "These special response teams will be tasked to go out and conduct high risk arrest and detention operations acting on intelligence that's been gathered by Afghan sources." It is also hoped that the quality of recruits to the new Provincial Response Company will improve the standing and reputation of the Afghan Police.
