"Rogue Like" is an interesting phrase that we've been hearing more and more about lately with a lot of great indie video games. Basically, it means you have one chance to play through a game and do the best you can. Are all board games like that? Yes. But some are better than others!

Rogue-like games get their name from Rogue (obviously), back in 1980, where the goal was to get as far as possible in a dungeon, die, and try again. Some of the biggest aspects were procedural generation of maps, random placement of items, upgrades, and enemies, and randomized events. There's been a relatively recent surge in the category with a lot of indie-ish games coming out with the same concept and, frankly, a lot of them being awesome. That said, what does it have to do with board games?

Fundamentally, nearly all board games could be considered "rogue-like". You get one shot to do your best and see how it goes. Some even have the randomized "procedurally generated" maps and key location changes for items, etc. That said, some give us the feeling of canonical rogue-like video games, at least IMO. As always, I want to know what you all think, though! Please share any and all thoughts in the comments! You know that I love to hear everything!
