Shi no Numa is one of CoD Zombie’s most infamous maps. Here’s five things it does right.
#5: Shi no Numa was the first Zombies map to feature open areas. Nacht and Verruckt were both tight and closed off, so Shi no Numa, which is also the first map to take place outside, was quite literally a breath of fresh air.
#4: Special enemy types make their first appearance with the addition of Hellhounds on Shi no Numa. While some games in the future would abuse special enemies, their importance to the franchise can’t be understated.
#3: Where Verruckt introduced characters that speak, Shi no Numa introduced characters with personality. This was the first map to feature everyone’s favorite, stereotype-laden crew of Tank, Takeo, Nikolai, and Richtofen, the four faces of the gamemode to this day.
#2: The Wunderwaffe was the first wonder weapon introduced into Zombies since the Ray Gun debuted in Nacht, and it’s more important than you might think. It was entirely possible for Treyarch to just keep the Ray Gun as the only wonder weapon on every Zombies map, and this map confirmed that wouldn’t be the case.
#1: Shi no Numa’s high rounds are infamously broken. Using your new Wunderwaffe, you can take out all 24 zombies per round with ease, and get to rounds far beyond your wildest dreams.
